Devonoak

Flora and Jay's

In the spring of 2009 we were approached by a local couple to make them a new roof for the historic stone extension on their old Devon longhouse. It was settled that there would be a balcony frame, a sweet arch-brace frame, and a framed hip with dragon-ties.

This is the framed hip set up in the workshop against the arch-braced truss.

The balcony frame- note carving in the collar. We were encouraged to put a few carvings into this frame, which was great. See also the central chamfer boss on the floor beam.

The finished room.

General building finished to a high standard by Pat and Matt Rice of Morchard Bishop.
