This is a contemporary douglas fir vegetable packing barn that I designed and built in the winter of 2005. Mew bought the douglas sticks, and Mike Gardner and myself cut them up into dimensioned timber for the frame (mike) and waney-edged cladding boards for the outside of the building. We framed it up on site in west dorset through the coldest winter in ages, using a horrible lister generator for power. It was great fun though, once again as much due to the humour of the customer as to the quality of the food!
The barn is now in full use as a cider making, vegetable packing, and machinery storing (in the aisles) all purpose farm building at Brigs Farm Organic Veg, Wootton Fitzpaine, Dorset.
The finished barn with Douglas Fir cladding, roofed in corrugated iron.
